As mining companies across the globe develop ever more sophisticated means of extraction and processing, Cooper is investing in R & D to develop products that match the mining industry’s needs today – and tomorrow.
Cooper split-to-the-shaft bearings play key roles in the motors, generators and gearboxes that mines depend on. But first and foremost they are crucial across a wealth of these mining applications:
Materials handling
Keeping raw, intermediate and refined products flowing smoothly on many types of conveyors.
Stockpile and surgepile management
Cooper bearings’ long life and ease of maintenance means they are ideal for use in stacker reclaimers.
Hauling and winding
Thousands of the shafts and gearboxes used to haul and wind workers and material through mining systems are dependent on Cooper bearings
Screening, sizing, washing
Our bearings are designed to withstand the most demanding environments, including relentless challenges created by vibrating screens, trommels and ore washers
Crushing and milling
Piece-size reduction aiming for uniform particles causes increased wear and tear, which is why more and more mine engineers are relying on Cooper bearings in ball mills and crushers
Ventilation and air movement
Fans and ventilators are required to operate over long periods at high speed to prevent build-up of gases and keep temperature levels regular. Cooper bearings enable them to perform this crucial task with maximum reliability
Cooper offers a range of bearings to suit the specific demands of your mining application.

Cooper mountings are available in a wide variety of materials including iron, nodular iron or steel. There is a full range of SN-, SAF-and SD-compatible pedestals.
Cooper seals provide excellent flexibility in difficult mining environments:
The seals selected most frequently to suit mining applications are:
Aluminium triple labyrinth (ATL)
Machined aluminium-bodied triple labyrinth seal for high speed and general applications. Supplied as standard in USA and Canada
Synthetic rubber single lip (SRS)
Suitable for wet but not submerged conditions. Can be used for improved lubricant retention by mounting the lip innermost
Felt (F)
The felt seal is standard in the UK and Europe for most Cooper bearings in general industrial applications
Single lip with spring-loaded retaining plate (SRS RP)
Suitable where a lot of splashing occurs, or where the bearing will be completely submerged. The standard option is appropriate for up to 2m of fluid, the high pressure version for up to 30m
